What is the support pack?

The Yale SOM Support Pack is a Zipped archive containing the essential applications that are needed to connect to the UNIX servers.

NOTE: These applications are for Windows machines only!

If you need help on another platform, please contact the helpdesk. What is in the support pack?

  • README.txt - Text file containing very basic instructions.
  • putty.exe - This is a SSH terminal client.
  • pscp.exe - This is a command-line Secure Copy application
  • psftp.exe - This is a command-line Secure FTP application
  • winscp.exe - This is a graphical Secure Copy application
  • plink.exe - Command line interface for establishing SSH conections using putty.exe
  • puttygen.exe - A utility used to create and convert public and private host keys.

How do I use the support pack?

NOTE: You will need Winzip to unzip this file.

Windows 2000/NT: Extract these files to your c:\WINNT\SYSTEM32 directory.

Windows XP: Extract these files to your c:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 directory.

You can then run them from the Start Menu by typing in the command at the "run" prompt.

Where do I get the support pack?

Download it from \\som-os-orion.som.yale.edu\Software\Exceed\som_research_support.zip or from ftp://wintermute.som.yale.edu/pub/unix/win32/som_research_support.zip .
