Connecting a Parallels Guest OS Network Interface to yale wireless or airyale

PLEASE BE AWARE: THE YALE SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT DOES NOT SUPPORT APPLE HARDWARE OR SOFTWARE FOR STUDENTS.

We are providing this information as a resource for those students who have an existing mac laptop.

NOTE: As of the release of Parallels Desktop for Mac build 3188, the previous wireless networking issues appear to have been resolved. Please upgrade to at least version 3188 or greater of Parallels Desktop for Mac and configure your virtual machine to use Shared Networking.

  1. To upgrade, open Parallels and go to Help\Check for updates.
  2. To configure your virtual machine for shared networking
    1. Open Parallels.
    2. Then open but do not start your virtual machine.
    3. From the Parallels Desktop menu, select Edit\Virtual Machine...
    4. In the Configuration Editor, under Resource, click Network Adapter.
    5. Under Network Adapter Options, look under Emulation and select Shared networking.
    6. Click OK.
    7. If enabled, turn off internet sharing under Mac System Prefs\Internet & Network\Sharing.
    8. Turn on the Mac firewall. You no longer need to modify firewall rules to allow everything to pass to your virtual machine and you will still be able to access the internet from your Parallels virtual machine.
    9. Start your virtual machine.
    10. Your Mac AirPort wireless network adapter should receive a DHCP assigned IP address and your Parallels virtual machine should receive a private network address translated (NAT) IP address.

The old Parallels wireless configuration instructions have been retained here for reference only. Parallels Wireless Connection Deprecated
