Reporting A Problem Online

You can search for issues similar to yours online through the Help Desk Ticketing System by Searching the Knowledge Base.

  • Open the SOM Help Desk website: https://service.som.yale.edu
  • Login using yale\Net ID and password.
  • Select Knowledge Base, enter keywords relating to your issue and click Go
  • If there is no solution, report your problem by clicking on submit incident

Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack

If you are an Office 2003 or earlier user and need to open Office 2007 files, you will need to download the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats.

Go to: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=941B3470-3AE9-4AEE-8F43-C6BB74CD1466&displaylang=en and download the pack. You will need to restart any open Office programs for it to take effect.

Citrix

Citrix is now web-based! http://citrix.som.yale.edu/

When using Citrix on your computer for the first time you will need to click the link: Download the Citrix Presentation Server Client for 32-bit Windows and follow the download prompts. Then, log in with your netid and password.

Citrix offers class based software such as: Morningstar Encorr, @ Risk, Extend 6, Microsoft Office 2003, Minitab 15, and Maptitude.

ClassesV2 – Downloading site resources

ClassesV2 has a feature called WebDAV which will allow students to set up links between the place on each class site where resource files are stored and a subdirectory on their own computer hard drive. Once set up, students can copy entire resource folders (or individual files)using click and drag, rather than having to save individual files. At present, SOM offers users the option of receiving and sending mail from their SOM account. Please be sure to contact your provider to set up a data plan that best suits your needs. below are the incoming and outgoing server addresses you will need. Yale SOM does not recommend a specific device for students, it is a matter of preference.

  • POP Server: pop.som.yale.edu
  • IMAP Server: imap.som.yale.edu
  • SMTP Server: smtp.som.yale.edu
    • SMTP Requires Authentication. The users name should be in the form of "yale\netid" and uses your Yale password.

Modems

SOM contracts 96 56K modems through Central Yale. The modem pool is available free of charge 24 hours a day to SOM faculty, students and staff for School related business. Access is through a New Haven phone number, therefore users are responsible for any long distance charges required to access the modem pool. Please note: Staying online through the modem pool while your computer is not being used is called "camping." Camping is discouraged and those computers camping for 30 minutes will have the connection terminated.
