Mac Printing Information
Note: These instructions do not work with 10.3. You are encouraged to update to 10.4 or 10.5 for connectivity to SOM resources.

10.5 (Leopard) Printing Instructions
- Open a browser to : http://localhost:631
- Click Add Printer
- Enter in the printer Name, Location, and Description
- Click Continue
- In the drop-down box, select Windows Printer via SAMBA
- Click Continue
- In the Device URI, enter

smb://netid:password@YALE/bravo.som.yale.edu/queue - Please note: The #Available Printer Queues are listed below.
- Example:
smb://bob1:jimbob@YALE/bravo.som.yale.edu/stdB30-Color - Click Continue

- Select the printer Make (Generally HP)
- Click Continue
- Select the Model
- Select the printer model and driver, then click Add. Most printers at SOM are made by HP.
If you cannot find the exact printer model, choose the closest model.
- Click Add Printer
- NOTE: You will be prompted for a username and password, you will need to enter your machines admin username and password. Generally, this is the user you login to your laptop with.
- Click Add Printer
The printer should now be added.

10.4 (Tiger) Printing Instructions

Add a Printer
- Applications -> Utilities
- Open Printer Manager (Printer Setup Utility)
- Click Add
- Hold down the option key and click More Printers... to open the Printer Browser window.
- From the first drop-down list, select Advanced
- Change the device to Windows Printer via SAMBA
Please note.... the command key is NOT the option key.

Device Name and Queue
You will now need to choose a Device Name. Choose something that denotes the location to help you remember where the printer is located.
- Under Device URI, use this format:

smb://netid:password@YALE/bravo.som.yale.edu/queue - Please note: The #Available Printer Queues and Drivers for each model are listed below.
- Example:
smb://bob1:jimbob@YALE/bravo.som.yale.edu/stdB30-Color

Printer Model
Select the printer model and driver, then click Add. Most printers at SOM are made by HP. If you cannot find the exact printer model, choose the closest model.
The printer should now be added.
- Now click on the printer to select it, and click on Show Info
- If there are duplexing options, select Installable Options from the selection box and click the necessary options.

How to access extended printer options

Duplex printing (both sides)
- Select Show Info
- Next, use the drop-down box to select Installable Options
- Click Duplex Unit

Select duplex when printing
- Choose Print from the application you are printing from
- Change the drop down from "Copies & Pages" to "Layout"
- Change the "Two-Sided" radio button option from "Off" to "Long-edged binding"

- stdBLvl-Laser.................*Use Driver "HP LaserJet 4250"
- stdBLvl-Laser2...............*Use Driver "HP LaserJet 4350"
- stdBLvl-Color.................*Use Driver "HP Color LaserJet 4600 v3010.107"
- stdB74-Laser..................*Use Driver "HP LaserJet 4300 series"
- stdDungeon-Laser..........*Use Driver "HP LaserJet 4250"

- "HOM" printers are located at security guard station near Sachem St. entrance
- "B-Level" printers are located on a counter in the hallway between rooms B-50 and B-51. The B-Level laser to the right is "stdBLvl-Laser2".
