Configuring dial up

DIAL-UP NETWORKING FOR SOM (56k)
This procedure configures your laptop to dial into the SOM network at (56K) from any remote location.
NOTE: You must first have a modem installed and working. Also, you must have activated your NetID with Central Yale including your 8 character password.
Create SOM Dial-up Connection Profile
Right-click My Network Places icon on your desktop.
Select Properties.
Double-click Make a New Connection.
Click Next
Select "Dial up to private network"
Click Next
Type the Telephone number: 495-8889
Click Next
Select "for all users"
Click Next
Enter "Call SOM 56K" in the Type a name.... box. Check the box next to: "Add Shortcut to Desktop"
Click on Finish. A new icon called Call SOM 56K should now appear in your Dial-up Networking folder and on your desktop.
Making the Call
Plug the phone cord into the modem jack on laptop and the other end in phone outlet.
Double-click the Call SOM 56K icon on your desktop.
A Connect To dialog box will pop-up.
Type your NetID for Username and your logon Password in the boxes provided.
Click Connect. You will hear a dialing process followed by modem connection sounds.
A window will pop-up saying "Verifying username and password", followed by "Connected to...". Minimize this window.
When finished with your session, click Disconnect in the "Connected to..." window.
