Classroom Presentation Equipment

The classrooms are equipped with a state of the art presentation systems. In each podium there is a laptop hook-up, document camera, VHS VCR, DVD player, and Yale Cable TV. The system is controlled via touch panel (shown below).

System Power-Up In order to activate the system you need to press the touch panel. Be sure to press firmly, this will insure that the system processor receives the command. Once the white startup screen (shown below) is displayed, press the screen again to begin. An input selection screen will appear describing each input option. There are five input options that can be selected.

Input Options Five buttons along the left hand side of the touch panel are as follows: PC, DOC, VCR, DVD, and CATV. As you can see below, each button is clearly defined on the left of the touch panel screen.

Volume Controls Three buttons on the right hand side of the touch panel control the sound of the input options. The "Vol up" , "Vol. Down", "Mute". The volume bar on the left hand of the screen goes up or down accordingly. When you press "Mute" all the red in the volume bar will disappear (shown below) and cut off the sound. It will reappear (as well as the sound) when pressed again.

Laptop Input Each classroom has has the ability to plug in your laptop into the podium in order to display your presentation through the projector. There are a pair of cables (shown below), the top wire plugs into your VGA port on the back of your laptop for the video display, the other plugs into the headphone output jack or line-out of your laptop for sound.

Lectern Input If you want to display the screen on your laptop, press the "PC" button on the touch panel. It is the first button in the row of buttons on the left hand side (shown below). The "PC Computer Controls" screen will appear.

Laptop Interfacing If you have purchased a laptop through the laptop purchase program you should have no problem using the presentation systems in the classrooms. If you have a laptop that was not purchased through the program please refer to the Laptop Configuration and Setup, which lists FAQ's for classroom integration.

If the image displayed on the screen is off to the right or left, depress the "PROJECTOR AUTO-ALIGN" button(shown on the touch panel screen above). This will adjust the horizontal and vertical phasing. If the image is still not centered or displaying at all, contact Classroom AV Assistance at 6-4435.

To project onto the screen you must toggle the output from your laptop. This is done by holding the "Fn" key, located on the lower left of your keyboard, and pressing the F8 key simultaneously. This action will toggle the output of your video signal. There are 3 possibilities, screen on the laptop only, the laptop screen and the projector, and finally the projector only.

When making a presentation be sure the screen saver as well as your power management controls are turned off. This will eliminate the possibility of your screen going blank. There is also network cables available in every lectern (in the drawer underneath the DVD player). When using the network connection be sure to logon before your presentation or class.


Document Camera

The document camera is in the drawer of the lectern, depending on the room it could be on the right or left side. You must extend the camera head from its stored position and pull the sidelights into the upright position (shown below). The unit has various controls for zoom, rotate, etc. to make documents and transparencies look great on screen.

Depending upon your media, transparency or hard copy, you will have to toggle the lamp button. You must press the lamp button once to get the side lamps to light, (hard copy). Press the lamp button a second time for the lower lamp, (transparency). To increase the brightness of the image press the "Iris" up or down key as necessary.

Press the "DOC" button, on the touch panel to activate this option (shown below). It is the second button down on the right hand side of the touch panel.

VHS Playback To play a video tape, you must load the videotape into the VCR. After the tape is loaded, push the stop button on the VCR, (pre-recorded tapes will play automatically). All the VCR controls (Play, FF etc.) are located on the touch panel screen(shown below). There is also a volume slide on the touch panel controlled by the Vol. Up and Vol. Down buttons on the right hand side of the touch panel. In the bottom right hand corner of the screen is the video playback cue screen. This shows only the presenter what is on the screen at all times when using the VCR, DVD, and CATV input options. If you do not want the audience to see what you are playing, or just need to find a spot in the tape, press "Hide Image" on the screen. This blacks out the screen, press it again to show image.

In order to eject the tape push the eject button. This button is located on the upper left corner of the VCR.

DVD Playback ("DVD" Button) TV To play a DVD, first press the DVD button (fourth down on the right hand side) and then press the open /close button located in the middle on the right next to where the DVD is inserted. The DVD will bring you to the opening menu. From there press play. The play, fast forward, etc. buttons are located on the touch panel screen.

To select another item on the DVD menu, press the "Advanced options" button in the top right hand corner of the DVD touch panel screen (shown above). Once selected, you will see four directional keys and a select button in addition to the basic controls on the first screen (shown below)where you started. Simply press the up, down, left, or right keys to move around the menu. Press the select button when you have landed upon a selection you wish to view. To return to the basic options screen on the touch panel screen, press the "Basic options" button located on the top right hand side of the screen.

Yale Cable TV (“CATV” Button) The podiums also have the ability to display Yale Cable. To select this feature, press the "CATV" button on the left hand side of the touch panel. The last channel left on by the previous class will be displayed on the screen as well as the preview window at the bottom right hand of the screen. To select another channel, press the up or down keys or type in the number on the touch panel screen (shown below). Click here for an up to date listing of the channels on Yale Cable.

System Power-Down (“Off” button) Press the "Off" button to shutdown the system. It is the first button on the right hand side of the touch panel screen. A message screen will appear (shown below) asking if you really want to exit. If so, press the "Exit" button. The system will begin its shutdown for 90 seconds.

It shuts down all power to the podium and displays a picture of a projector (shown below) with a countdown from 90 seconds underneath it. The system cannot be turned back on until that countdown timer reaches zero. If you choose not to exit, press "Don't Exit" and the system will put you back to the last input option screen that you were previously on.
