How to access your research home directory

You may access your UNIX Research home directory from any workstation (Windows, UNIX or Mac) machines using SAMBA.

To access this resource, you will need to have a Yale IP. This means you will need to be located on campus, or have an active VPN connection.


Access from Windows

How to mount your home directory on your windows workstation

To access the directory:

  • Go to 'Start'->'Run'
  • Type: '\\baal.som.yale.edu'
  • Enter your login credentials (NOTE: use 'YALE' as the domain).
    • NOTE: This will show you a list of available shares, including CRSP data.
  • Right click on your home directory (This is the same as your NetID)
  • Assign, a free drive letter. We suggest 'H:' for home directory, or 'U:' for UNIX.


Access from Mac OS X

How to mount your home directory on your OS X workstation

To access the directory:

  • Click on your Desktop. This will switch to the Finder application
  • Press 'Command-K', this will open up the Connect to Server dialog window.
  • In the 'Server Address' field, type: 'smb://baal.som.yale.edu'
  • Enter your login credentials (NOTE: use 'YALE' as the domain).
    • NOTE: This will show you a list of available shares, including CRSP data.
  • Select your home directory share (This is the same as your NetID)
  • The drive will now be accessible on your desktop, and under finder.
